The department will host a Skills Australia Needs event in Houston, Texas, the United States of America on the weekend of 19 to 20 May 2012 targeting skilled workers in the resources, energy and infrastructure sectors. The event will provide an opportunity for invited skilled workers in the targeted sectors to hear directly from the department about skilled visa options and to meet with Australian employers to discuss
employment opportunities. Priority will be given to those skilled workers in engineering or in automotive, construction, electrical or mechanical trades (journeymen). Selection
of invitees will be based on skills, experience and qualifications meet the employment and sponsorship opportunities on offer from participating employers at the event.
A list of participating Australian employers and state and territory governments with positions they are seeking to fill will be announced in late April 2012 at www.immi.gov.au/skillevents
Attendance is free of charge and by invitation only as places are limited. Invitations will be issued by email in early May 2012, and information on venue and attendance times will be provided to invitees at this time. There will be several sessions across the weekend event, and those invited will have the opportunity to select which session they would prefer to attend.
